Double Tonsilectomy and Adenoid Removal

Yep, it has not been a very fun time around our house lately.  We scheduled the surgery back in June and decided to do both Megan and Jake at the same time.  Poor Megan had strep throat 5 times in between Christmas and the end of the school year, and Jake always caught it from her.  So, we knew that going into the next school year, we had to do something.  We also knew if one had it done, there was no way that we would be able to talk the other one into it a couple of weeks later...so, we geared up for the double surgery.

Overall, the experience at the South Bend Surgery Center was great and we knew that they were in good hands with Dr Collins.  Dr. Collins was the same ENT that performed Jenna's surgery for her ear tubes in December.  The nurse and staff were wonderful and helped to calm their fears.

Leading up to the "Big Day" we stocked the house with popsicles, ice cream, sherbet, icees, jello and yogurt, so the kids were actually excited about the thought of eatting all that junk food all day long.  In fact that morning, I'm certain that I was more nervous than they were.  They were actually arguing over who was going to go first.

The Morning before the Surgery

The hardest part was the wait once we were at the Clinic.  We had to be over there at 10:30 and Jake didn't go back until 12:45.  Thankfully, the kids were in good spirits the whole time.  They played dressup with their surgery attire and we played numerous games of Hot Potato with Jake's Spiderman.  It was actually pretty fun.  Both Jake and Megan walked away with the nurses and were tearless...again I think that it was harder on me.

All geared up...Jake hated the hair net

When Jake went back into susrgery, reality set in for Megan

Megan asked the anestegiologist how they would put her to sleep, so he was nice enough to bring her the mask ahead of time so that she could see what it looked like

They were back in surgery for about 45 minutes each.  They took Megan back before we were allowed back to see Jake.  They both had a rough time waking up from the anesthesia.  Megan's first words were, "This hurts much worse than Strep, I want my tonsils back".  It broke my heart.

A picture that I pray we never get to repeat

I went to the bathroom and came back to this..Leigh was updating Grumpy and both kids were snuggled up on his lap

Poor Jake didn't do well with the meds, so they sent us home with barf buckets (thank goodness we didn't need it)

While the Dads are away...the Kids will play

Leigh, Matt and Dad all went into the Cubs game as a Father's Day present from their kids.  So, Jenny, Mom and I decided to take the kids up to St Joe to visit the Children's Museum and play in the fountain.  It was a wonderful day and everyone had lots of fun.  I'm not sure if they enjoyed the Curious Kids Museum more or the Splash Pad.  The kids LOVE playing with their cousin Adam and it will only be a matter of time before Abby is chasing right behind them.
